Avrupa’da bir dönem insan avıyla geçmişti. Adına Cadı Avı denilen bu dönemde ‘insanlar’ sevmedikleri, korktukları kişilere ‘cadı’ yaftası yapıştırıp, cinayetler işliyorlardı. Cadı Avı sırasında o kadar korkunç işler yapılıyordu ki vahşet adeta yanında solda sıfır kalıyordu. İşte karşınızda Cadı Avı.
270 yıl sürdü
Avrupa 1480 yılına girildiğinde Orta Çağ’dan kalma bir fikir dünyasını henüz atamamıştı. Bu fikir dünyası sadece Avrupa’da kalmamış yeni kıta Amerika’ya da sirayet etmeye başlamıştı.
Neden Cadı Avı başladı?
Cadı Avı’nın başlamasını en büyük nedeni Kitabı Mukaddes’e dayandırılıyordu. Mısır’dan Çıkış 22. bölüm 18. ayet "Bir cadının yaşamasına müsamaha göstermeyeceksin." şeklindeki sözleri Cadı Avı’nın başlamasına neden oldu.
Kilise de işin içinde
Avın başlamasını sağlayanların en büyük dayanağı kilise olmuştu. Kilisenin Engizisyon Mahkemeleri avı düzenleyenlere ön ayak oluyordu, onların arkalarını sağlama alıyordu. Hatta o kadar ileri gidiyorlardı ki kullanılan işkence aletleri kutsanıyordu.
‘Cadı’ kimlerdi?
Filmlerde siyah elbise giyen, uzun şapkalı, uzun burunlu, yaşlı, süpürgeli şekillere sokulmuştur cadılar. Ancak bu oldukça yanlış bir bilgidir. Cadı olmak için normal biri olmanız yeterlidir, bu özellikleri taşımaya gerek yoktu.
Çilli, kızıl saçlı, kürtaj yapan, komşuyla kavga ettikten sonra komşusunun başına kötü bir şey gelmesi, aşırı dindar, erken menopoza girmek, çirkin ve zayıf olmak, evinin üzerinde bulut olması/olmaması, ayinde esnemek (şeytanın içinden kaçmak için çabalaması) gibi nedenlerle cadı yaftası yiyebilirdiniz.
İşkence ediyorlardı
Cadı yaftası yediyseniz geçmiş olsun. Başınıza gelmeyenler kalmayacaktı. Artık siz bir ölüydünüz. Çünkü ne yapıp edip size ‘cadı’ olduğunuzu itiraf ettiriyorlardı. Tabii ki bunu yaparken hiç de nazik değillerdi. Türlü işkenceler ediliyordu.
Tecavüz ediyorlardı
Vücutları tıraş ediliyor. Kadının vücuduna bıçaklar ya da sivri bir şeyler batırılıyor, eğer hissiz bir bölgeye denk gelir de kanamazsa ya da her idamda para alan bu kişiler yaylı bir bıçak kullanırsa o kadın cadı ilan ediliyordu. Eğer kan yoksa demek ki o bölge şeytan tarafından yalanmıştır deniliyordu. Bu sırada bir kadının bakire olup olmadığı da kontrol ediyorlardı. Kadına tecavüz ederek yapıyorlardı bunu.
Başka işkenceler de vardı
Sadece bunlarla kalmıyorlardı;
- Su işkencesi: zorla ağzınıza huni ile su boşaltılır. Bu işlem sindirim organlarınız patlayıncaya kadar devam ediyor.
- Metal tıkaç: ağza metal bir tıkaç takılıyor, bunu vida yardımıyla açıyorlar, o arada dişler kırılıyordu. Konuşacağınızı işaret edene kadar çeneyi birbirinden ayırmaya devam ediyorlardı.
- Ayaklık: Demir mengene ile kan damarları çatlayıncaya kadar ayaklarınızı sıkıştırıp, kemiklerinizi kırıyorlardı.
- Dört atla çekme: Eller ve ayaklar dört ata bağlanıyor ve bu dört at farklı dört yöne doğru gidiyordu.
- Çarklarda gererek öldürme
- Diri diri yakmak
Ne zaman son buldu?
1480 yılında başlayan bu korkunç dönem 1750 yılına kadar devam etti. 40 ila 60 bin arasında insanın ölümüne neden oldu. Bu insanların çoğunluğu kadındı. Kadınların büyük çoğunlukta olmasının nedeni ‘Havva’nın cenneteyken yasaklı elmayı yemeye teşvik etmesiydi’.
Cadılık ilk olarak İngiltere'de 1736 tarihinde suç olmaktan çıkarıldı. Cadılık Kanununda yapılan değişiklikle -cadı olmak yerine- cadı olduğunu iddia etmek; büyü yapabildiğini, kayıp eşyaları bulacağını vs. iddia etmek suç haline getirildi. Bunu diğer Avrupa devletleri takip etti. Günümüzde cadı avlarına halen Sahra altı Afrika toplumlarında, Hindistan'da ve Papua Yeni Gine'de rastlanır.
